Azure Minerals is an Australian listed mineral exploration company focused on developing mining projects in the richly mineralised Sierra Madre Occidental mining province in northern Mexico. Azure's most advanced property, the Promontorio Copper-Gold-Silver Project, is currently undergoing advanced stage exploration and project development studies. The Company is also undertaking an intensive exploration program on the El Tecolote Copper-Zinc Project in Joint Venture ('JV') with the Japanese Government organisation, JOGMEC.
Promontorio has a JORC Mineral Resource of 502,000 tonnes @ 4.7% Cu, 2.1g/t Au & 99g/t Ag. Metallurgical testwork produced excellent metal recoveries capable of producing a high grade copper-gold-silver concentrate. Economic evaluation shows Promontorio can be developed and operated profitably, especially at current metals prices. Development study activities, including environmental impact assessments ('EIAs'), are well underway. Additional resource expansion drilling at Promontorio and first pass exploration drilling on the nearby Cascada gold-silver prospect will be undertaken in 2012.
In addition, exploration for porphyry copper and skarn copper-zinc deposits is underway at El Tecolote. El Tecolote previously hosted an historical mining operation which produced 1.4Mt @ 1.9% copper, 7.0% zinc & 47g/t silver. As such, potential for similar deposits is present throughout this highly prospective property. JOGMEC may earn up to 70% interest in this project by funding the expenditure of US$13 million.
